asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer when Peers' expenses allowances were adjusted and by what amounts since October, 1964.

The maximum daily allowance against which the Peers may recover the actual amount of their expenses incurred in attending sittings of the House was increased from 4½ guineas to £6 10s. as from 1st January, 1970, pursuant to a resolution moved on 18th December, 1969, by the noble Lord, Lord Beswick.
