§ 26. Mr. Frank Allaunasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will now take steps to relax restrictions on the banks on loans to housebuilding firms in view of the decline in the housing programme and the number of unemployed building workers.
§ Mr. Maurice MacmillanThe banks have been asked to ensure that any permitted increase in their restricted lending is directed to the finance of exports and of production and investment which can be expected to contribute to the balance of payments over the coming years. We do not propose to vary this guidance at the present time.
