Mr. Gwynoro Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how much central government money has been spent on roads in Carmarthenshire since 1960; and what schemes were involved.

About £6.3 million was spent on new construction, improvement and maintenance of trunk, principal and other roads up to 31st March, 1970.

The new construction and improvement schemes costing over £25,000 carried out in the county since 1960 are:

  • A48—Improvement between Gelli Uchaf and Coed-Gain Gate.

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what was the population of Carmarthenshire in 1955, 1960, 1965 and the latest available year.

On the basis of the Registrar-General's mid-year estimates, the population of Carmarthenshire for the years in question was as follows: 1955: 170,800; 1960: 168,250; 1965: 166,320; and 1969: 163,600.
