HC Deb 24 November 1970 vol 807 c85W
Mr. Mark Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what proposals he now has for imposing levies on beef imports into the United Kingdom; with what countries negotiations are proceeding; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Anthony Royle

Our proposals for an interim levy scheme for beef form part of the Government's policy to change the present system of agricultural support as outlined by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer on 27th October, 1970. We are in touch with our major suppliers and have had a multilateral meeting at which the following were represented:

Australia Brazil, European Economic Community, Irish Republic, New Zealand, South Africa, Uruguay, Yugoslavia.—[Vol. 805, c. 40–41.]
