HC Deb 24 November 1970 vol 807 cc88-9W
Mr. Nicholas Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) if he is satisfied that sufficient information is given on the capital side of the accounts published by the area electricity boards, and that they give an adequate picture of the total capital employed in contracting and appliance sales; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if he is satisfied that the figures of return on capital in respect of contracting and appliance sales published by the area electricity boards take adequate account of the capital investment in buildings and showroom space used for these operations; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ridley

The figures at present published exclude the capital value of buildings and showrooms, but treat as a cost the rents on leased premises, and notional rents on premises owned by the area electricity boards. Nor do they show up-to-date valuations of the capital employed. I am considering whether this treatment is adequate.
