HC Deb 23 November 1970 vol 807 c24W
Mr. Clinton Davis

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will recommend to the United Nations Organisation the establishment of a United Nations Emergency Relief Organisation to deal with immediate aid for areas affected by national disasters, such as that experienced recently in East Pakistan.

Mr. Anthony Royle

The United Kingdom co-sponsored a resolution adopted at the July meeting of the Economic and Social Council calling on the United National Secretary-General to study the whole question of international co-ordination of disaster relief. We intend to contribute to the preparation of this study. Meanwhile as my right hon. Friend assured the House on 19th November, we are considering all aspects of the question of international planning of relief for disasters of this kind.—[Vol. 806, c. 1446.]
