asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what amount of investment grants to ship-owners have been authorised but not yet paid.

Mr. Anthony Grant

None. Applications for investment grant are considered and grant paid after the relevant expenditure has been incurred. There is no prior authorisation.

Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a statement on the anticipated effect on the shipping industry of Her Majesty's Government's decision to abolish investment grants.
