HC Deb 23 November 1970 vol 807 cc9-10W
Mr. G. Elfed Davies

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is his estimate of the number of primary school buildings required in Glamorgan; and how this compares with other counties in Wales.

Mr. Peter Thomas

It is the responsibility of the individual local education authority to decide how many school buildings are required in its area having regard to the trends in school population. There are presently 440 primary schools in Glamorgan out of a total of 1,998 such schools in the whole of Wales. The number of primary schools must reflect the needs of each area and therefore no meaningful inter-area comparison can be made.
