asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he will make a statement regarding the placing of Government contracts with research establishments in the North East.

As my hon. Friend said on Monday 9th November in reply to a Question from the right hon. Member for Sunderland, North (Mr. Willey), we are making every effort to steer research and development projects to research establishments in the North East and other Development Areas.
