HC Deb 23 November 1970 vol 807 c14W
69. Sir J. Langford-Holt

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what discussions have taken place concerning the danger of collision in the English Channel and the need for a new rule of the road for ships using that seaway; and what is the policy of his Department.

Mr. Anthony Grant

By international agreement traffic separation schemes have been introduced in the Dover Strait, off the Lizard and the Scilly Isles. In the light of recent events we shall be discussing shortly with the interests concerned whether we should recommend to other Governments further traffic separation schemes in the English Channel. Discussions are also taking place in the Inter-Governmental Maritime Consultative Organisation in preparation for a Conference to revise the general collision regulations.
