HC Deb 23 November 1970 vol 807 cc51-2W
Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many coal-fired electricity power stations remain in Scotland; what is their total coal consumption per year; what this represents in terms of coal mining jobs; and if he will give an assurance that no further power stations will be allowed to convert to oil firing without full consideration of the social consequences.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

Eleven, with a total consumption of about 625 million tons of coal, representing about 15,000 mining jobs.

I can certainly give the hon. Gentleman the assurance he seeks.
