HC Deb 23 November 1970 vol 807 c23W
88. Mr. Michael McNair-Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what action has been taken by Her Majesty's Government at the United Nations towards securing the creation of an international agreement on ways to deal with hijacking and other acts of violence against civil aircraft.

Mr. Anthony Royle

On 19th November, the 6th Committee of the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted a strong resolution calling upon all States to take appropriate measures to put an end to hijacking and to work towards the adoption of an international Convention on hijacking which is to be considered at a Conference in The Hague next month. I am glad to say Her Majesty's Government were able to play a leading role in securing this very welcome result. The resolution is likely to be taken at a plenary session of the Assembly either tomorrow or the day after.
