HC Deb 23 November 1970 vol 807 cc36-7W
Mr. Abse

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether she is aware that the headmaster of a recognised school has acted as an intermediary to provide two children for a form of adoption; whether she is aware that the Houghton Committee on Adoption have put forward the proposition that third-party adoptions should be prohibited; and whether, in the interests of the welfare of children, she will withdraw recognition from any school where a headmaster proffers children for adoption.

Mrs. Thatcher

I have only seen Press reports about the case which may have prompted this Question. Adoption is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary.
