HC Deb 20 November 1970 vol 806 cc504-5W
Mr. Lomas

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will amend the present Highway Code to allow cyclists to ride two abreast where road conditions allow.

Mr. Peyton

I have consulted interested organisations about the current revision of the Highway Code. Their comments, which include this suggestion, are being carefully considered.

Mr. Lomas

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will include in the next Highway Code advice to motorists that they should, after going through water, slow down and apply the brakes to dry them out, check tyre pressures and treads weekly, check wheel nuts weekly, check tyre inflators at the local garage, change valves on tubeless tyres when fitting new tyres, and fit reflective safety plates for safety.

Mr. Peyton

I am now considering the advice as to what should be included in the next draft of the Highway Code.
