HC Deb 20 November 1970 vol 806 c508W
Dr. Vaughan

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment in view of the number of accidents on the Basingstoke road into Reading, culminating in a recent fatal accident to a small boy, and the fact that traffic will increase still further when it becomes a feeder road to the M4 motorway, if he will advance the improvements to this road and also consider increasing the total length of road to be improved.

Mr. Michael Heseltine

Reading County Borough Council, the highway authority, are preparing a scheme for dualling this road from the M4 interchange to Hartland Road. It is too early to forecast when this could be included in the road programme. I understand that the Council are considering a later improvement towards the north.
