HC Deb 18 November 1970 vol 806 cc404-5W
Mr. Leadbitter

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what proposals he has to protect tenants from fire risks in multi-accommodated properties; and what measures he proposes to give local authorities and fire service inspectors greater powers to enforce standards in such properties that will reduce fire risk to a minimum, provide adequate alarm facilities, and easy escape equipment.

Mr. Channon

Housing authorities already have power under the Housing Acts to require provision of means of escape from fire in houses in multiple occupation or closure of part of such a house if the provision of means to escape should prove too expensive. My right hon. Friend has no proposals for further measures at present.
