Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how much is currently paid by central Government to Lanark County Council for housing purposes; and what is his estimate of the housing grant to be given as a result of the refashioning of the system of subsidies and rents.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

£1,651,844 was paid to Lanark County Council in 1969–70.

Estimates cannot be made for individual authorities under revised arrangements until these have been finalised in consultation with the local authorities.

£157,471 was paid to Rutherglen Town Council in 1966–70.

asked the Secretery of State for Scotland what consultations have now taken place with local authorities regarding cuts in housing subsidies.

Consultations with the local authority associations will start shortly on our proposals to change the structure of housing finance.

These proposals are being made, not in order to cut subsidies, but to direct them in future to those in need.
