§ Mr. William Hannanasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware of the growing public concern about the planning proposals in respect of the important site in Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, presently occupied by departmental stores; what representations he has received on this matter and what was the nature of his reply; and, in particular, 398W whether he will take immediate action before any irrevocable decision is made this week, to have the matter referred to him under the powers given to him by section 13 of the Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act, 1947.
§ Mr. Gordon CampbellRepresentations about an application for permission to build a development of shops, offices and hotels on the site now occupied by Pettigrew's and Coplands' stores in Sauchiehall Street have been made to me by four hon. Member, the Royal Fine Art Commission for Scotland, the New Glasgow Society and the Glasgow Institute of Architects. While I appreciate their concern I consider that this application should be dealt with by the Corporation as local planning authority, in the light of any representations received by them, and it would not be appropriate for me to call it in for decision by myself. The bodies who have written to me are being informed accordingly.
