HC Deb 17 November 1970 vol 806 cc361-2W
Mr. Benyon

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what calculation his Department has made into the financial benefit which British cereal producers would receive in the event of a British adherence to the European Economic Community's agricultural policy at existing European Economic Community price levels.

Mr. Anthony Stodart

As E.E.C. cereal prices are hider than those which currently obtain in this country, United Kingdom prices would be expected to rise during transition to the common agricultural policy, but it is not possible to assess the overall benefit to cereal producers as this would depend on the movement of production costs between now and the material time.

Mr. Gwynoro Jones

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what will the future be of the Milk Marketing Board as a statutory board in the event of the United Kingdom's accession to the Treaty of Rome.

Mr. Anthony Stodart

The Government expect that, in the event of the United Kingdom acceding to the European Economic Community, the Milk Marketing Board will continue to play a vital rôle in the marketing of milk.
