HC Deb 17 November 1970 vol 806 cc390-1W
Mr. Thomas Cox

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the number of known assaults that have taken place on bus drivers or conductors employed by London Transport for the last three years.

Mr. Sharples

The Commissioner tells me that 219 cases of assault on bus crews were reported to the Metropolitan police in 1967, 211 in 1968, 297 in 1969, and in the first four months of 1970, 79.

Mr. Thomas Cox

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what discussion his Department is having with officers of London Transport to lessen the possibility of physical assault taking place against bus drivers or conductors employed by London Transport.

Mr. Sharples

The arrangements for co-operation between the Metropolitan police and the British Transport police in dealing with these problems were reviewed at a meeting last year.
