HC Deb 16 November 1970 vol 806 c321W
95. Mr. Brewis

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many new jobs for men are planned to be available in the South-West of Scotland by 1976; and how this compares with jobs created in this region in the last five years.

Mr. Anthony Grant

On 30th September 1970, the nearest date for which a figure is available, the number of male jobs reported to be in prospect in South-West Scotland in the next four years in authorised new buildings and buildings taken over by manufacturing firms amounted to some 440. These figures do not include jobs which will arise from expansions by firms in their present premises or new jobs arising in the service sector. No comprehensive figures are available for jobs created in the last five years.
