HC Deb 16 November 1970 vol 806 cc300-1W
56. Mr. Hugh Jenkins

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will make a further statement on the supply of arms to South Africa, in view of the resolution of the Security Council on the matter which was not opposed by Her Majesty's Government.

Sir Alec Douglas-Home

No. The reasons why we abstained on Security Council Resolution 282 were explained at the time.

Mr. Wall

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he has received the list of maritime defensive arms required by the South African Government for the defence of the Cape Route.

Sir Alec Douglas-Home

Pending a decision on the policy on arms sales to South Africa, Her Majesty's Government are not in a position to entertain particular requests.
