HC Deb 16 November 1970 vol 806 cc320-1W
92. Mr. Clinton Davis

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what discussions he has now had with local authorities concerning the shortage of smokeless fuel and its impact on the large number of smokeless zones throughout the country.

Mr. Ridley

The effect of shortages on smoke control is the concern of my right hon. Friends the Secretary of State for the Environment, the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Secretary of State for Wales. They have asked local authorities in consultation with the Solid Smokeless Fuels Federation to check the supply prospects in their areas. We are in close touch with my right hon. Friends and with the trade in these matters.
