Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many home helps were employed by local authorities in Wales and East Flintshire, respectively, for the years 1963, 1966 and 1969; and what plans he has for encouraging the recruitment of people to home help staffs.

Mr. Peter Thomas

The number of home helps employed by local authorities in Wales at 30th September in the years 1963, 1966 and 1969 were 4,095, 4,484 and 5,069. Comparable figures for Flintshire were 121, 146 and 162. Separate figures for East Flintshire are not available.

Recruitment is the responsibility of the local health authority concerned.
