HC Deb 16 November 1970 vol 806 c349W
Mr. Harper

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many deaths, injuries and accidents have taken place in the home for the year ended 1969 and for the previous five years.

Mr. Alison

The following tables, which contain the only relevant information available, show (1) the number of deaths in England and Wales (whether or not occurring in the home) as a result of accidents in the home (ICD Nos. E870-E936—Seventh Revision; Nos. E850-E929 and E980-E988—Eighth Revision) and (2) estimated numbers of discharges (including deaths) from National Health Service hospitals in England and Wales attributable to injuries (whether or not accidental) occurring in the home (ICD Nos. N800-N996—Seventh Revision).

There is some overlap between the two tables since the number of patients appearing in table (1) who died in hospital will appear also in table (2).
