Captain Kerby

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps are being taken to trace the 1,639 Commonwealth seamen, notified as having deserted their ships in the United Kingdom as between 1st July, 1962 and 30th June, 1970, who are still missing without trace; and if he will specify the Commonwealth countries to which these deserter illegal immigrants belong.

The particulars of these Commonwealth seamen were sent to the police, who circulated them in the Police Gazette. Ninety per cent. were from Pakistan and India; the remainder came from Aden, Barbados, Bermuda, Canada, Cyprus, Gambia, Guyana, Hong Kong, Jamaica, Kenya, Malaysia, Malta, Mauritius, New Zealand, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Tanzania and Trinidad.
