HC Deb 13 November 1970 vol 806 cc274-5W
Mr. O'Halloran

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many secondary roads in London it is proposed to widen to dual three-lane standards.

Mr. Graham Page

At present there are 12 schemes programmed or in preparation on those trunk and principal roads shown as secondary routes on the Greater London Development Plan where widening to dual 3-lane standards is proposed.

Mr. O'Halloran

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will order work to stop on the intended widening of the A1 road between Archway and the North Circular Road until the findings of the current inquiry into the Greater London Development Plan are known.

Mr. Graham Page

No. I do not consider that the improvement of this route should be deferred if it can be justified on its own merits irrespective of other highway proposals in the Greater London Development Plan.
