HC Deb 13 November 1970 vol 806 cc289-90W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why it took him until 2nd November to send a formal acknowledgement to the communication addressed to him on 26th October by the hon. Member for West Ham, North, enclosing a letter from the Borough Librarian of the London Borough of Newham concerning proposed library charges; and if he will see that such formal communications are despatched more speedily in the future.

Mr. Barber

Because the hon. Member's letter did not arrive at the Treasury until three days after the date on the letter.

Any inconvenience which may have been caused by the delay in sending a formal acknowledgement until after the intervening weekend is nevertheless regretted.
