Mr. Rankin

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what steps he proposes taking to strengthen the Commonwealth ties.

The strength of the Commonwealth relationship is a matter for all its members jointly to sustain. We have made it clear that we shall continue to play our full part in the association. The Prime Minister and the Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary will be attending the Commonwealth Prime Ministers' Conference in January in Singapore.
