HC Deb 12 November 1970 vol 806 cc242-3W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that it is taking upwards of a year or more for court cases to be brought on road tax evasion; and whether he will call for a report from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis as to whether a commercial van, details of which have been supplied to him, is still being used although its owner was convicted after waiting 15 months for trial; and what action he proposes to take to speed up these processes.

Mr. Sharples

Prosecution for nonpayment of vehicle excise tax is a matter for the licensing authority. A report from the Commissioner of Police would therefore not serve a useful purpose.
