Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales which of the Welsh local authorities have appointed a director of social services consequent to the new legislation; what is the average salary of such appointees; and what is the lowest and the highest salary of such appointees.

Mr. Peter Thomas

Caernarvonshire, Flintshire and Pembrokeshire have apopinted directors of social services. The salary payable is a matter for determination by the appointing body and the posts were advertised at the following scales:

  • Caernarvonshire C.C. £3,882—£4,362.
  • Flintshire C.C. £4,590—£5,030.
  • Pembrokeshire C.C. £4,209—£4,689.
