Mr. Alec Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list the refuse destructor and pulverisor plants which have been constructed in Wales since 1960 and those which are in the process of being constructed; what are the total capital costs of these plants; how many of them required loan sanction from the Welsh Office; what schemes are before him at present; and what is the estimated expenditure on such plants in 1970, 1971 and 1972.

One pulverisation plant, to serve Mountain Ash U.D.C., has been constructed in Wales since 1960 at a cost of £66,000 for which loan consent was given by my Department. Similar approval was recently given to another pulverisation plant costing £52,000, to serve the Abergavenny area, work on which is expected to start shortly. The only other firm proposal known to me is an incineration plant, estimated to cost £700,000, to serve the area of Rhondda Borough Council. It is expected that expenditure on this will be incurred in the years 1971–72 and 1972–73.
