§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer by how much he estimates Members of Parliament's 140W salaries would have to be increased to give them the same percentage increases as have been made since 1964 in the salaries of senior civil servants and chairmen of nationalised boards; and whether he will detail the cumulative loss of such additional awards on the basis that the necessary increases had been automatically applied on the same dates and by the same amounts per cent. as those paid to the recipients stated.
§ Mr. Patrick JenkinIf Members' salaries had been increased in line with the increases in the pay of senior civil servants or chairmen of nationalised boards since 1964, the relative increases would have been about £1,300 or £1,235 respectively. On this basis the estimated cumulative notional "loss" to Members is of the order of £2,055 or £1,240.
