asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what educational projects have reached the design stage and have been submitted to her Department in the county borough of Carlisle; and what are the estimated costs of such projects.

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what percentage of boys and girls, respectively, stay on at school after the statutory leaving age in the county borough of Carlisle, using the latest convenient figures; and what are the comparable figures for England and Wales as a whole.

Mr. van Straubenzee

In January, 1970, for maintained schools, 51.5 and 64.4 per cent. respectively. The corresponding figures for England and Wales were 55.1 and 54.6 per cent.
