HC Deb 09 November 1970 vol 806 cc28-9W
81. Mr. Cohen

asked the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications how many telephones were installed during the six months ended 30th June, 1970.

Mr. Chataway

I understand that in the period the Post Office supplied 571,639 new exchange connections.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

asked the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications whether he is aware that telephone communications between London and other parts of the country are subject to frequent and prolonged delays; and whether he will give a general direction to the Post Office to take action to reduce such delays.

Mr. Chataway

The Post Office tells me it is aware of difficulties on a minority of routes and is doing all it can to augment the trunk line system. A general direction would not be appropriate.
