Mr. Marquandasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he will list the measures he is now taking to attract industry into the intermediate areas; and whether he will estimate the cost to public funds in respect of each intermediate area during the current financial year and also during a full year.
§ Mr. Anthony GrantUnder the Local Employment Act 1970, building grants and Government factories can be provided by the Department to firms providing additional employment in the intermediate areas. The cost will depend on industry's response to the incentives: no realistic estimates can be made of expenditure in individual areas.
