Mr. Nicholas Edwards

asked the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications what is the total annual expenditure by the Post Office on advertising its services; and what is the estimate of the total additional revenue earned as a result of this advertising.

Mr. Cormack

asked the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications what was the cost of Post Office advertising during 1969; and how much was spent advertising the postal and telephone services between 1st January and 30th June, 1970.

Mr. Chataway

These are now matters for the Post Office.

In the six months up to 1st October, 1969, before the Post Office became a public corporation, it spent £1,223,000 on publicity, of which £287,000 was devoted to recruitment. Expenditure for the remainder of the last financial year will appear in the Post Office Report and Accounts for 1969–70, to be published shortly.
