HC Deb 05 November 1970 vol 805 cc454-5W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will now announce his plans for the teaching of Welsh in the schools of Wales; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Thomas

This is one of the matters which I shall now be examining.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many formal translations of official forms and documents have been issued by Government Departments since 18th June, 1970; and how many such translations are now in the course of preparation.

Mr. Peter Thomas

One Welsh translation of an official form has been issued since 18th June. Translations of a further 22 forms and documents are in course of preparation by various Government Departments.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what proposals he has for the translation of further official forms and documents into Welsh.

Mr. Peter Thomas

The need for official forms and documents in Welsh is under continuous review. I am at present arranging for the translation of certain forms connected with mental health, and will encourage and assist my Ministerial colleagues who have proposals for other translations.
