HC Deb 05 November 1970 vol 805 cc413-4W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will give for the longest and most convenient stated period of time the number of robberies and attempted robberies that have taken place involving members of the various private security firms; what amounts of moneys have been stolen; in how many cases were arms used and injuries caused; on what statutory authority these security guards are allowed to carry truncheons and other such weapons; and whether he will arrange for such duties in future to be undertaken by the police.

Mr. Sharples

These statistics are not available. Security guards provide services which are supplementary to those of the police, but they have no rights other than those of any citizen under the law.
