HC Deb 05 November 1970 vol 805 cc446-7W
Mr. Gwynoro Jones

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps he is taking in the present negotiations for entry into the European Economic Community to secure favourable terms for hill farmers.

Mr. Anthony Stodart

The Treaty of Rome contains provisions for aid to undertakings handicapped by structural or natural conditions or to promote the economic development of special regions.

At the opening of the present negotiations the Community was told that among the matters we shall wish to see covered is the question of assistance available for farmers in areas of special difficulty, which in our view includes the problems of hill farming areas.
