asked the Secretary of State for Social Services, of total expenditure on the exceptional circumstances addition to supplementary pension and supplementary allowance claimants, how much was devoted, according to the latest figures available, to extra heating allowances, special diet and each other separate component of these additional payments; and what was the range of payment in individual cases for each of these components.

The total expenditure on exceptional circumstances additions is of the order of £8 million per annum. In addition about £10½ million is spent on long-term addition for claimants receiving an exceptional circumstances addition. Information is not available about the cost and range of payment of the separate
