§ Mr. William Hamiltonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the total amount of housing subsidies paid to public authorities in each of the last eight years; by how much these are going to be reduced in each year up to 1974; and what will be the estimated effect on rents, expressed as an annual average figure.
§ Mr. Gordon CampbellAs the reply to the first part of the Question requires a number of figures, I will, with permission, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT. I cannot estimate the effect of our new policies on subsidy payments until detailed arrangements have been worked out in consultation with the local authorities. The overall effect on rents will depend on a number of factors including the rebates scheme.
