asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will maintain the present level of support for the Scottish fishing industry.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

The current subsidy scheme for the inshore and herring fleet approved by the House in July maintained the level of support under the previous scheme. The scheme for the deep sea fleet approved by the House in March, 1969, runs until July next year and the support will be reviewed before then.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what proposals he has for encouraging industrial fishing by the Scottish inshore fishing fleet.

None at present, but scientists of my Department are co-operating in a survey sponsored by the White Fish Authority to determine the commercial possibilities for industrial fishing.
