asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will take steps to ensure that a Scottish bank note is accepted as tender by commercial interests in the south of England; and if he will make a statement.

No. I do not think it would be right to require by law the acceptance of a variety of bank notes by people who may find them difficult to recognise. Scottish bank notes are in practice accepted in English banks and by many commercial concerns in England.
