asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what consultations he has had with the monetary authorities with a view to procuring a general reduction in interest rates; and if he will make a statement.

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will now take action to reduce the general level of interest rates.

Mr. Barber

The level of interest rates is kept under continuous review in the context of the economic situation and our general policy objectives. I have no further statement to make at this time.
