HL Deb 03 November 1970 vol 312 c333WA
LORD O'HAGAN

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the police still vet the accommodation of Commonwealth Immigrants wanting to bring in dependants; and if so, whether they will ensure that this vetting is, in future, carried out by people with more appropriate training.

LORD WINDLESHAM

The police still undertake inquiries into accommodation and other matters arising from entry certificate applications. I am well aware of the objections which can be taken against this practice, but there are considerable difficulties in the way of making other arrangements. The possibility of doing so is however being thoroughly examined.
