HC Deb 02 November 1970 vol 805 cc303-4W
Mr. George Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the number of nurses and doctors, respec-

number of tinkers and others travelling in Wales in a regular fashion; what is his policy towards them; if he proposes to give extra financial assistance to authorities planning to set up sites; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Thomas

The total number of travellers in Wales in March, 1965 was 1,449 and is estimated to be about 1,600 at the present time. The policy of the Government is that sites should be provided for all such travellers in accordance with the duty imposed by Part II of the Caravan Sites Act, 1968. Expenditure incurred will qualify for rate support grant in appropriate cases. The proposals so far submitted to my Department by the local authorities are as follows:

tively, that he will recruit from the Llandough Hospital, Cardiff, to work at the new University Hospital, Cardiff; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Gibson-Watt

Recruitment of staff for the University Hospital of Wales is a matter for the University Hospital of Wales (Cardiff) H.M.C. and the Welsh Hospital Board.
