HC Deb 02 November 1970 vol 805 cc288-9W
Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment to what extent the proposed reductions in assistance to British Railways and other transport apply to Scotland; and for which lines grants will be most affected.

Mr. Peyton

No specific reductions in financial assistance to the British Railways Board have yet been decided except those for the London commuter area announced by the Chancellor of the Exchequer on 27th October. As regards other transport services, I understand that my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland will be applying more stringent criteria to new transport infrastructure schemes in cities.
