HC Deb 02 November 1970 vol 805 c252W
Mr. Adley

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will reassure those living below the present supersonic flight path that supersonic flight is not intended by civil aircraft on commercial flights over the United Kingdom.

Mr. Noble

Power already exists in Section 19 of the Civil Aviation Act, 1968, to restrict or prohibit commercial supersonic flights over the United Kingdom. A decision on the extent to which these powers should be used will be taken in the light of all relevant information well before supersonic aircraft enter commercial service.
