HC Deb 02 November 1970 vol 805 c242W
45. Mr. Willey

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what steps he is taking to improve the current employment difficulties in Sunderland.

Mr. Ridley

The Government have just announced their proposals for more effective assistance to industrial growth in the development areas. I shall continue to draw the attention of suitable firms to the possibility of setting up in Sunderland.

46. Mr. Willey

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he will make a statement on advance factories in Sunderland.

Mr. Ridley

Since 1962, 7 advance factories totalling 150,000 sq. ft. have been authorised. 5 are completed, one is under construction, and the other is to be started shortly. Of those completed, 4 are allocated and interest has been expressed in the other. I have no plans at present for further advance factories.
